The Effective Strategic Partnership for Teleport Operators

Teleports in a Fiber, Wireless and HTS World

  • Many people still think of teleports as satellite hubs but they have become much more than that.  In the teleport(s) you manage, what is the range of connectivity and services they provide?
  • Compared with a purely satellite-based operation, how are your operations, staffing and business processes different in a fiber and wireless world?
  • Is the evolution toward more complex networks increasing your capex requirements, decreasing them or simply changing where the money goes?
  • Please describe a customer application that, in your view, represents the optimal mixing of the different kinds of connectivity and the value-added processes you bring to bear.
  • As operator of hybrid networks, you are in competition with new players, from terrestrial carriers to data center operators.  What is your value proposition compared with them and how does their competition affect you?
The Internet of Things Opportunity for Teleports

  • What experience does your company have in supporting machine-to-machine (M2M) or Internet of Things (IoT) applications for customers?
  • IoT applications typically require multiple partners to deal with hardware and software integration, mobile communications, long-haul communications.  Where does your company fit in that ecosystem and how do you work with the different partners?
  • Selling in this marketplace is completely different from selling a VSAT data network or broadcast channel origination?  What is required to be successful?
  • As this opportunity expands, will HTS satellite architectures dominate, or will there continue to be a role for standard-architecture satellite?  If HTS becomes critical, how does a teleport add value to it as a managed service provider?
  • Looking forward a few years, how important do you expect IoT applications to become to your business?  Why?

Videos will be streamed on the WTA website for a full year following the event and promoted to WTA members, teleport and satellite customers and the trade press.
