Via Satellite spoke with NewSat Asia Pacific Sales Director, Ashley Neale and ITC Global CTO, Chris Hill about their partnership, focused on delivering services across the energy sector.

Hill highlighted that NewSat is their partner of choice due to the unique design of the Jabiru platform and the advantageous location of the Perth teleport, a strategic benefit when serving the Asia Pacific. “What we like about what we see on the Jabiru platform is that the EIRP and on the uplink the G/T ratio is being optimised not just for where there are population centres, but rather where there are resource projects and energy or oil and gas projects.”

NewSat’s Jabiru-2, which launched in September 2014, was specifically designed for customers within the energy sector and will provide highly targeted Ku-band capacity across Australia, Papua New Guinea, Timor Leste and the Solomon Islands. Neale noted Jabiru-2 is ideal for oil and gas organisations with multiple sites as operators are able to access all of their sites within the same bandwidth pool.

As the oil and gas industry selects increasingly powerful platforms to support technology and trends, bandwidth demand is significantly increasing. “The oil and gas sector in particular is experiencing a gradual transition from legacy systems to IP-centric platforms. As the trend of digitisation continues, Hill notes that older systems are not being replaced with equivalent systems, but instead rigs are choosing much more powerful platforms to handle growing needs.”
