In a first for the UAE’s education sector, du and Dubai-based International Horizons College have announced a partnership to create ‘College on Cloud’ – wherein IHC students get to use the latest in visual learning, information sharing, and classroom collaboration tools deployed in the cloud to enrich their learning experience.

This is in-line with the shared vision of du and IHC to create a learning and operational environment that leverages the cloud and delivers the promise of a scalable, reliable, compliant and pay as you grow infrastructure to power IHC’s ICT strategy.

du delivers these cloud solutions to the college in a pay as you go, grow and use model without any capital expenditure upfront, whether it is managed networks, infrastructure as a service (virtualized servers and storage), managed wifi, managed security, managed video as a service or software as a service running several learning applications in du's world class data centres in the near future.

Dr. Michael Dobe, President of IHC, describes du as "a partner rather than merely a supplier of technologies, solutions and managed services.” Asked to describe the du-IHC relationship, he says that "From the get go the team at du worked with our vision of creating a cloud-based ICT strategy by bringing world leading technologies, tools and applications that our students can use at the college.  This enables IHC students to learn by collaborating with other students and with instructors. Beyond the obvious benefits to learning in the academic environment, these technologies also serve a very practical purpose for our students. As they learn about arts and sciences, our students are also acquiring modern skills that prepare them for a world where cloud-based technologies are the de-facto communication medium. The partnership with du makes it possible for IHC to realize this convergence of technology and the liberal arts that so many have talked about but so few have actually achieved.”

Hatem Bamatraf - Executive Vice President of Enterprise at du opines, "This is a significant milestone for the UAE and reflects the future of education in the country. We believe that the partnership with IHC has been a great driver and enabler, as we deliver a rich stack of cloud and managed services solutions to enhance our customers’ ability to empower their business with quick, scalable, reliable and cost effective ICT solutions. Our 'Business Cloud' platform is delivered through a world class data centre in the UAE, and we continuously innovate and enhance our offerings with new vertical and horizontal solutions our customers can leverage from, to truly deliver the promise of the cloud."
