(January 5, 2017 – NEW YORK, NY) – The World Teleport Association (WTA) today released Reducing the Energy Load, a new research report on the design, engineering and technology strategies that teleport operators are taking to reduce their energy consumption and which approaches are delivering the biggest impact for the money invested.
Teleports have become data centers offering the world’s best options for connectivity.  Data center equipment is steadily increasing in power and capacity while shrinking in size, resulting in higher expenditures on electricity and cooling, which need to be controlled for the sake of the bottom line as well as to meet increasingly strict environmental policies.  As technology expansion creates the problem, so technology innovation is offering new ways to reduce energy consumption.
“The greater the value that teleports add to their customers’ transmission requirements, the higher their energy consumption for information technology and ever-more-powerful RF and switching systems,” said executive director and report editor Robert Bell. “The most innovative operators are finding new ways to push back on that trend to protect their bottom lines as well as the environment we all share.”

WTA members can access the report by signing in to their accounts on the WTA website. Non-members can purchase the report for US$1650.
