Telekom Austria recently announced a comprehensive new service package via Telesat’s Telstar 11N satellite for Africa and the Middle East. From its orbital location at 37.5° West, the satellite will provide ideal Ku-band coverage for connectivity to, from and between Europe, Africa and the Americas.

Telekom Austria’s new service package on Telstar 11N is uniquely designed to provide optimal use of this satellite from the start of commercial service in February 2009. The satellite’s new generation of power amplifiers provide approximately 35% more transmit power, facilitating small remote antennas, particularly important for markets in Africa.

The service package contains 3 major components:

  • Space segment
  • A managed uplink service
  • Access to terrestrial connectivity, either to IP or Telekom Austria’s international fiber infrastructure

Telstar 11N will also be used to expand Telekom Austria’s SkyReach services, which are based on the iDirect technology platform. Telstar 11N, will provide a platform for data networking, but also offer new applications for operators in need of GSM backhauling, especially in the western, central and southern parts of Africa; as well as TV stations serving the same region.

Telekom Austria provides one-stop shop services that range from "simple” Managed Uplink Services to tailor-made packages. Broadcasters can take advantage of our unique portfolio of full-range services that include contribution, play-out and distribution.
